RAFFAEL ‘MR CHESS’ SANTOS GOES THROUGH WITH HARD FOUGHT CHOKER MATCH AGAINST WOMAN GRANDMASTER ANNA RUDOLF
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The second match of the Challengers Choker Cup, the new Mixed Mind Sport event where chess and poker players clash, was closer and more tense than the scoreline suggests. In this match fortunes ebbed and flowed, as Anna Rudolf, the slight favourite from Hungary got knocked-out by Brazil’s Raffael ‘Mr Chess’ Santos. The match came down to pivotal moments with Raffael keeping his never when it mattered.
One such moment came in the second Clash. Anna Rudolf, materially down after the betting phase, brilliantly fought her way back into the match using Knight trickery – twice forking the Brazilan to remove material. Watch the dramatic close to the game as fortune ebbed back and forth here. Raffael went onto to win the Clash and Match 3-0.

3 All-ins, hyper aggression and a bluff that went badly wrong. When Grandmaster Simon Williams faced IM Eric Rosen across the Choker board – it got explosive!!
[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]The Challengers Choker Cup, the new Mixed Mind Sport event where chess and poker players clash, got underway with a bang. In the first match, 7 May 2020, we saw ultra-aggressive play with three all-in bets, as the highly favoured grandmaster, Simon Williams from the UK crashed out of the tournament, losing 3-0 to International Chess Master, Eric Rosen of the United States.
The critical moment came in game 2 when Williams, holding just a Rook and a Pawn in his hand, followed Rosen’s raise with an All-in (watch the moment here Williams v Rosen).…Rosen (with a Rook and Bishop) called his bluff and went on to win the pot, the clash and the match. Sometimes in poker, and also in Choker, the right play is to fold and wait for better cards. Williams’ rating advantage in the chess phase was easily wiped out by the material deficit. Crushing.
